Examples of Audience Feedback

Questionnaire on Website

What do you think to the logo on the website?

The logo stands out from the rest of the page like a logo should and the eye is drawn to it when the page first opens.

What do you think to the layout of the website?

The way the website is laid out makes it very easy to navigate through the site and find the information you are looking for.

How good is the navigation around the website? 10

1- Poorest 10-Brilliant

What do you think to the images used on the website?

The images on the site show what the programmes are about and all the actors look like they are enjoying filming the shows meaning that the shows will seem more real.

Is the information useful on the website? Why?

The information on the site shows exactly what the user would want to know so for this reason the information on the site is exactly what should be put on the site.

What do you think to the video on the website?

The video on the website was very well made and was very informative about the programmes tat were going to be on the channel when it launched.

Do you like the music on the video?

The music would be each-to-their own, however, a song that most people would recognise and one that makes the user happy when they listen to it is a good choice.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the website?

This website is very well made for a channel that is only just launching. Once they start to make some money they would be able to improve it further, but for the moment it is exactly what is needed for a new channel to inform of the programmes that are going to be on the channel.

Additional Comments

I wish TV4U the best of luck in their bid to become one of the great TV channels.

Questionnaire on Newspaper Advertisement

What do you think to the design of the newspaper advertisement?

The design of this advert for me as a young person is very eye-catching and just from the advertisement I would look to see what was on this new channel.

Is the information on the newspaper advertisement useful?

The information is useful because it tells the reader where to find the channel and when it starts.

If this was to be in a real newspaper would you stop to look at the advertisement?

I would stop and look at the advertisement because it is very eye-catching.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Newspaper Advertisement?

The main strength is that it is very eye-catching, however this advertisement has one weakness, it is only aimed at younger people and very few of the older generations would want to watch it, however, I would watch this channel from the advertisement.

Additional Comments

Only that I hope all goes well.

Questionnaire on Double Page Spread

What do you think to the layout of the double page spread?

The layout of the double page spread is very good. There isn’t too much writing but there is enough to give the information needed.

What do you think to the colours used? Do they mean anything to you?

The colours used are very bright and attract the eye, but they don’t particularly mean anything to me.

Do you think the images I have used are appropriate for the article?

The images are appropriate because they show what shows are on the channel and inform the reader what there will be on the channel.

Is the idea of reading about stars from a new TV Channel appeal to you?

To me personally, I would for a new TV channel, but if it was a regular occurrence in magazine then I would get bored very quickly.

Do you find out the relevant information you need?

If I was looking for information I would go to the website rather than read an article in a magazine, however, this is a good idea to see what the stars on the TV channel think about their new jobs.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Double Page Spread?

A strength would be that it is very well laid out and is exactly what a double page spread should be. There is one big problem with this spread though. The interviewer asks Sweet and Sour a question, but Hannah and Ruth reply, you don’t know which is which. Other than this though, the spread is very well made.

Evaluation

I had to choose a brief to follow. The brief I chose to follow was to design a website for a new TV Channel, and the website had to include a minimum of three hyper-linked pages with my own images, audio and video extract. The new TV Channel I designed the website for was a new TV Channel I created called TV4U. I had to pick to ancillary texts to create as well. I decided to design a newspaper advertisement for TV4U; and a double page spread for a

listings magazine that focused on TV4U’s launch.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The main product that I developed was the website. It follows most the conventions of a typical TV Website. However, unlike existing TV Channels that have their programmes recognised, I had to include all the information on my new TV Shows. Unlike existing TV Channels which have pages upon pages dedicated to programmes I could not do that with my website, because I needed people to watch the programmes first. The convention I challenged was that all my pages were linked and you could reach any page from anywhere on the website. After looking at existing TV Channel websites I noticed that these websites did not do this. You had to go to different webpages before you could go to a particular pages. I challenged the conventions of videos, I made my video on movie maker. Unfortunately because I had time off to be in hospital I missed filming, so I created my own film on movie maker. The movie contained all the relevant information on when the shows on and had images representing that particular show.

The second text I developed was a newspaper advertisement for TV4U. The convention I challenged was the layout of the page. Unlike most newspaper advertisements that have the page layout as portrait my newspaper advertisement is landscape. I challenged this convention, because I want my advertisement to be different and eye catching, I want people to stop and take a look at the advertisement. A convention I challenged was I originally hand drawn the design for the newspaper advertisement. It was meant to look like it was drawn by a young person because the channel is representing young people. I scanned the design onto the computer and edited the design, so the design looked more computerised but you can still tell the design is hand drawn. This has developed a convention, because not many newspaper advertisements look hand drawn, the audience can tell it is computer generated. I challenged the convention of newspaper TV advertisements being coloured liked the Ant and Dec advert. I have kept my newspaper advertisement black and white because without the colour it looks more eye catching, especially with the logo being central.

The third text I created was a double page spread for a listings magazine. I tried to challenge the conventions of a double page spread but found it hard. I developed the convention of making the headline eye-catching and bright. I wanted to make the launch of the channel individual so I did an interview with stars, after looking at double page spread sin listing magazines I noticed that not many magazines do interviews with the stars of some of the shows, the interviews they do are brief. I tried to get all the right information onto the double page spread. A convention I challenged was using a lot of pictures. I noticed after looking at double page spreads was that double page spreads do not use too many images, they only use a few image. But because I need my shows to be watched, I got as many images which were representations of my programmes.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The main product that was my website needed to be linked to my newspaper advertisement and double page spread in some sort of way. The website is linked to my newspaper advertisement because it has the big TV4U logo. Whereas, the website is linked to the double page spread because the double page spread has the website address on it. I need people to look at the double page spread and see the website address, and look the website address up to have a look at what the website has to offer. If I do not advertise the website address then no one will visit the site. I feel the website, the newspaper advertisement and the double page spread work well together, they all give the information of when the show is being launched. Although, the newspaper advertisement only says when it is being launched it will still grab the audiences attention to have a look at when the channel is being launched, and what digital channels it will on. The website and the double page spread work well together, because the double page spread like the website is advertising the programmes, and people get the same information so they have an idea what the schedule is like and what sort of shows are on offer on this brand new channel.

What have I learned from audience feedback?

My target audience is young people aged 15-21 years old. The channel is for young people who are still in education. It’s a channel where they can get back from a hard day at work and watch the new programmes.

I try to include programmes that will entertain the audience and that will take their mind off work. I want people to be relaxed, and feel that the programmes are good quality to watch. The existing institutions such as Channel 4 and ITV are still getting millions of viewers, however, these channels are under threat from the new digital channels that are appearing everyday.

Website- Audience Feedback

From the audience feed back I got it seemed mostly positive. The audience all seemed to agree that the logo is eye catching and stood out from the background, and for them would become a recognisable brand. Everyone who I asked said the layout was well thought through, and would rate the navigation 10/10. The audience said it was easy and simple to get around the website. The audience also commented how the images looked like real TV Programmes and that they were well thought through. Young people commented on how the information on the website is what they would want to know about the TV Channel is relevant to TV4U. This is good because it means I have given people the right information to tune in to the new TV channel. The audience said that the music on the video was something they would recognise straight away and suits the video well. This is good because it means the music is creating positive attitude towards the video. People commented that the video was informative and was well made, they said it was high quality. I was very pleased by the positive feedback on the video because I had my concerns that the video did not contain the right information, but it seemed the audience felt that the right information was included.

The strengths the audience seemed to mention was that the website was well made for a channel that was just launching. But people did seem to feel that if the channel was to earn more money it could be improved a lot more. The additional comments I got was that they hoped the launching of the channel went well.

Newspaper Advertisement Feedback

The feedback I got was mostly positive. A lot of the audience mentioned that if they saw this in a newspaper advertisement, they would stop and look at the newspaper advertisement. I am very happy by the comments because it means as this advertisement is for a young person, I have attracted the right audience. The target audience said in the feedback that the advert did contain relevant information, as it told them where to go to see TV4U. I was extremely please by this as I immediately knew that young people would go to watch TV4U, I had included information that they would recognise.

The main positive comments I got was at how eye catching the advertisement was. They said that the advertisement looked like it had been designed by a young person, and had been well thought through.

But one person made a very clever comment on the weakness. One of the audience on the audience feedback, said that the weakness for them, was that older people would not stop to look at the advertisement. This is a negative for me because it means that if an older person had young teenagers, those young teenagers would not find out about the new channel unless they read the newspaper themselves.

Double Page Spread Feedback

I again got a lot of positive comments. People said that the layout was very good. They also commented that there was not too much information, but to them this was a good thing because they did not want to read too much, but there is enough information to know about the TV4U. I was pleased by this because it means I catered to their needs, and that I had not included too much information for them to read. It seemed that the audience was in agreement to them that the colours meant nothing to them, nut they did blend well together. It seemed the idea of interviewing people from TV4U was a good idea, however, if this was to appeal in a magazine every week interviewing different stars from TV4U they would by pass the page. I felt this was a negative comment but I am concerned that people would get bored with the interview. A lot of people said that although the information is relevant they would rather go to the website to find out more, however, they commented it was a good idea that the website was included because they would know where to go. But as the information is included on the double page spread it is relevant. I was happy by these comments because it meant that relevant information was included, and that I had the right idea. The main strength that my audience commented on was the layout was very good and that it looked like a proper double page spread.

But some of the audience did point out that they would not know who is Sweet and Sour, because it had confused them that I used the real names of the stars Ruth and Hannah, they would prefer if I had put the of the real stars name then said in the brackets who they were, whether they were Sweet or Sour. This is a fair comment to make and if I was to make the double page spread again I would make the change they suggested.

How did I use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Research for Website

I looked at the history of soap operas. This was to get an idea of the history of the TV programmes that are most watched by us today. By having an idea of how long soap operas had been on, I realised that what we watch is very high quality, they are memorable and everyone watches them. I learnt what the first TV Soap Opera was, and found out that the figures are still high today. By knowing this it lets me know that my shows are going to have to memorable if I want people to tune in to them.

I continued to do research into soap operas by looking at the conventions of soap operas, and applying the key concepts model LIIAR. I learnt at AS about Soap Operas and drama, so I had idea already about the conventions of existing shows. I looked at the language of existing soap operas. The language of soap operas consists of , the editing, the cinematography, the mise-en-scene, sound and narrative. By looking at these conventions, I have an idea of what my shows must be like. I looked at the Ideology behind soap operas, gaining an idea of what their ideas are for these shows, this allows me to create shows that have good ideas behind. I looked at the institution that makes the shows to have knowledge on who makes the shows. As it is only me working on this project I will be the institution which makes the products. I looked at the sort of audiences soap operas aim at, this is mainly family. I now have an idea of what audience is not normally catered for, which is young people. I now know that my TV Channel should be aimed at younger people. I looked at who the soap operas around today represent, my TV Channel is going to represent young people.

If I was to design a website for a brand new TV Channel, I had to decide on what new TV Channel I would be designing the website for. I came up with several different names having a look at why I would not use them:

The first one I came up with was “Put Your Feet Up”. I felt this name did not sound catch enough. It sounded more like a TV Channel that would represent old people rather then a TV channel that would represent a young people. I felt that this particular name, “Put your Feet Up” would not be remembered by many young people as the name does not sound contemporary.
The second name which I came up with was
“Best of British TV”. Although it sounded quite catch, and represented the fact that the new TV Channel would publish the best of British TV, it sounded more like a channel where you could catch old comedies and films, rather than a channel that produced programmes for younger people.

The third name I came up with was “On the box”, however, this sounded too much like an existing music channel called “The box” I did not want to copy that name. I was keen to use the name “On the Box” because everyone knows what this name is about which is what is on TV. But I decided against the name because it was too like a music channel.
The final name I thought up was
“TV4U”. This was the name I decided to use because, the name sounds contemporary and attractive to young people. The name uses text language as in “4U” young people will recognise this because they use it in everyday text. The name is easy to remember and represents what the channel is about which is TV for young people.

Now that I had a name for my channel I could then start the planning of the website because I knew which channel the website would be advertising for and representing.

The next piece of research I did was looking at existing websites. I looked at ITV and Channel4. The sort of research I did into the ITV website was the colours, and the images that were used and the message they were trying to send across, and also what are the conventions of a website. I looked at the same for Channel 4 and made comparisons between the Channel 4 website and ITV. I also took on board that Channel 4 was a good template to sue for website, because they also have a target audience of young people. I learnt that the conventions of a website are the consistent use of a visual or technical method within that website. An example of a convention of a website is the links. Usually links are underlined or in a different colour, from knowing this convention I knew what to look out for on the website.

I learnt that the conventions of a website are the consistent use of a visual or technical method within that website. An example of a convention of a website is the links. Usually links are underlined or in a different colour, from knowing this convention I knew what to look out for on the website.

I wanted to know more about my target audience who are aged 15-21 years old, so I created a questionnaire to find out their viewing habits.

On Microsoft Word I created a questionnaire which consisted of four questions:

  • What gender are you?
  • What age are you?
  • What sort of programmes do you enjoy watching?
  • What time of the day do you sit down ?
  • What time of the week do you sit down?

I asked the question to get an idea of the viewing habits of my younger audience. By asking these sorts of questions, I get an idea of the sort of programmes my viewers like, and when they sit down to watch their favourite programmes. After I had created the questionnaire, I sent an e-mail out to all my friends, with the questionnaire attached and asked my friends to answer the questions so I had an idea of what my age group like to watch. I also printed the questionnaire off so I could give the questionnaire to my younger siblings for them to answer as well.

Through doing this research I got an idea of the sort of gender I would be aiming the new TV Channel and the website at. I would be aiming my website at both males and females. I got an idea of the age group I was targeting, I realised I had targeted the right audience. I learnt from the questionnaire the sort of programmes people aged 15-21 years old enjoyed to watch, so I then knew what programmes should be featured on the new TV Channel. I learnt what time the audience sat down, so I had an idea of when I should start my TV Channel, and when it should it should finish. The final thing I learnt from the questionnaire is what time of the week everyone sits down. Now I found out all this information, I can include the appropriate programmes, videos and images and sounds on my website.

Planning the Website

Before I could decide on the web structure I was going to use I needed to decide what pages I was going to include on the website. The Homepage

would give an introduction to what the website was going to be about.

Programmes on TV4U would tell my target audience what the new TV Channel TV4U had to offer, informing the audience when the programmes were going to be on and what they were about.TV4U Schedule

This page told them when their favourite programmes were going to be on. So the audience knew when to tube in to watch the programmes.

Pick of the Week the audience to watch out for one particular programme that was bound to entertain them.

By deciding what pages I was going to include I now had the basis for my website, I knew what I was going to include. I now had an idea of the appropriate information I should include, the sort of images I should include and the video and sounds that should include. I could now take the next step of deciding the web structure I was going to use.

The next part of the planning was how my website was going to be structured. In IT I learnt about the different website structure, so I had an idea of what the best structure would be for the website. I chose the website structure called Mesh. This is where on a website you can access any page without having to go to the homepage to reach your next page. By deciding upon the web structure I could decide on the most appropriate order for the pages, and the sort of menu bar I could include that would link the pages together.

I had to Plan the logo. What logo was I going to use that would be the icon of the TV channel, what logo would signify the channel best? I decided to come up with different designs on Adobe Fireworks.

First Logo

To design the first logo I used the vector doughnut tool. This gave me a ring shape, I then filled the ring in with a yellow colour. To allow the audience to know what the channel was called I included the name of the website, TV4U. I drew another vector, this time the text box. I wrote in the text box TV4U, and I edited the font by changing the from style from Arial to Base 05, I also changed the font size, so the font was larger and would jump out to the eye. I decided not to use this logo because I felt that this logo would not represent my TV Channel because it does not represent the TV programmes on offer. The programmes on TV4U are not morning breakfast shows. However, the colour scheme of this logo would be suitable for a breakfast show.

Second Logo

To design the second logo I used the vector rounded rectangle tool. This gave a rounded look, I then chose a fill effect from assets style library. After I had chosen the colour, I again wrote the name of the channel TV4U. I changed the font style from Arial to Base 05 and changed the size to 96, this made the letters bolder and stood out to the eye more. I put the text in a vibrant yellow colour and this stood out from the orange fill effect background. I came to the conclusion that the colours were not going to work for my website, they represented mornings to much and my website was going to be in the evening.

Third Logo

To design the third logo I used the vector ellipse tool to draw a circle. This created a circle shape. I then filled the shape in with a fill effect from the style assets library. Chose a black and grey fill effect. On the circle I again put TV4U. I drew a text box, and in the text box I wrote the text TV4U. I changed the text style from Arial to Base 05 and changed the font size to 96. I changed the font colour to white so it stands out from the dark background. I considered this logo as the logo I may use on my website and my two ancillary texts. I may use this logo because young people feel it represents them. The dark colours also represent when it is on which is at night.

Fourth Logo

To design the fourth logo I used the vector square tool. This created a square. I decided to fill the square with another fill effect from the style assets library. The background was maroon colour. I again changed the font style to Base 05 and chose a font colour from the assets library. I enlarged the size to 96 so it would stand out to the eye. The orange font colour made the text stand out from the maroon background. I didn’t feel the logo worked so I am not considering to use it.

After making the hard decision of what logo I was going to use, I had to decide on the layout of the pages, as I needed to know what components of the website went where. As I had an idea of the web structure I could now decide on where the menu bar would go. I planned the layout of the pages on Microsoft Publisher. I used the box tool to draw out boxes, I then used the text box tool to draw out a text box and say what each of the boxes were doing in that position and what they were going to contain.

From looking at existing websites I got an idea of where everything was positioned for example, I learnt that the menu bars usually went down the page, or at the top of the page. From learning this I knew how my page should be laid out. I learnt from the existing websites the sort of layouts that were recognisable. I learnt the conventions so then I knew where everything was going to be on the layout of each page. The audience need to recognise the navigation so it is made easier for them to use, they need a consistent layout so they have an idea of where all the information and images are.

I then decided on the background that would be most suitable for the website so I looked at the iconography behind colours that are around today. I know from looking at existing websites that their backgrounds consisted of one colour that would represent that audience. I had to look at colours that would represent my youthful audience. I knew that if I wanted my website to look professional I would have to use one colour only as existing websites did that. The colour I decided on was Blue as blue is iconic of being youthful.

The next decision on the planning I had to make was the images I was going to use.

I went to a dance festival during October 2009 Half Term. The dance festival was being held at a performing arts school. I already had an idea for a programme. I asked for my sisters permission to take an image of her at the dance festival. She gave me the permission to take the image. I decided to take the image in the corridor of the performing arts school. I asked her friend to stand in the background doing her hair. I positioned Hannah in a ballet pose and I took the picture with my digital camera. This became the image of Festival Time.

Family Life

Again I had an idea for a TV Programme. I asked my family for permission to take this particular picture. I set my camera up at a family meal we had. I put the camera on a self timer and took the image. I tried to make the image look family orientated by making my family close and cuddly. The lighting was very relaxing, and created a loving relaxing family atmosphere.

NRM Show

This show is about New Rock Music. I took the image and I did not have to get permission. I put the camera on self timer and took the image with my digital camera.

Teen Models

I again took this image. I know what modelling pictures are like, so I directed my sister on how she should pose. As the show is about modelling, I needed to make the image look like a professional modelling image. I asked my sister to put a fashionable dress I picked out. I did her make up and directed her on how to pose. The image I took did look like a professional modelling image, it was the image I was looking for.

Around the World

Last year I went to Dubai on holiday. Whilst in Dubai I took a picture at sun set. I thought up a programme for TV4U that was about travelling. I felt this would be a suitable image to use as it is somewhere abroad, somewhere different to the UK.

Grammar School Road

I again asked my friends permission if I could take this image. The image represents the show. I used actual people from the college. As the programme is about college life. I again put my camera in self timer so I could be in the image as well.

TV4U Sport Show

I went along to my brothers rugby club and asked for the permission to take this image. They were in a proper match and I took my chance and took the image. This is a good image to use as it represents a type of sport.

The more I use recognisable images the more of a relationship the viewer will create with the show. So I tried to use images that were iconic of the show.

Construction of the website

The final part of the process of creating the website was actually constructing the website.

Homepage

Every component is in an ap div box. Ap div boxes allow you to move components of the website around easily.

The background is blue, as blue connotates youth. I uploaded the logo. The Logo is the link back to the homepage

I designed the banner on Fireworks using the ellipse tool, I used the fill effects from assets library, and the text tool I enlarged the font. The banner says the catch phrase of the channel “THE CHANNEL 4 U”

The menu bar is in the form of a Table. The menu bar h as 3 links to; Programmes on TV4U, TV4U Schedule; Pick of the Week. The font type for each link is Franklin Gothic Heavy and is in a Large Font size. The font is in purple and is bold. Each link is underlined so people know it is a link.

I designed a poster on Fireworks. I imported the NRM image in Fireworks. I used the vector rectangle tool to draw rectangles. I filled each rectangle in Blue. The first rectangle says what time it is on, the second blue rectangle says what days NRM Show is on, the third blue rectangle tells the audience not to miss it. Going along the bottom of the poster in a large blue rectangular box is saying what the poster is advertising, and that the NRM Show starts on the 16th January 2010 with a one off special. All the text is in white and is bold, so it stands out from the blue background.

Underneath the poster is the introduction to the website, explaining what the website is about, and what it is informing the audience about, in this particular case it is TV4U. The introduction is in the font style Franklin Gothic Demi and is in bold. The size is medium so that it stands out to the viewers eye.

Programmes on TV4U

The background is in light blue again to connotate youth. The TV4U Logo is in the top left hand corner again, and is the link back to the homepage.

The banner is at the top again with the same catchphrase “THE CHANNEL 4 U”.

Again the menu bar is in the form of a table. It is one row and has three columns. Each link is in the font style of Franklin Gothic Heavy and is in a large size. The font colour is again in purple and is underlined, so people know this is a link.

There is an introduction to the page, allowing the audience to know what this page is about.

Underneath the menu bar is the video that demonstrates what is on TV4U. The audience can play, pause, stop and switch the sound off on the video.

Under the video is the small images that represent each of the shows. The first image is of Festival Time; the second image is of Family life, the third image is of NRM Show; the fourth image is of Teen Models; the fifth image is of Around the World; the sixth image is of Grammar School Road; the seventh image is of TV4U Sport Show. The names of the shows are underneath each image n the font style of Elephant.

Underneath each of the images have information about show. The first piece of information is about Festival Time. The information has a header that I created in Fireworks. The font style is Cambria and is in the size 58. This is so it stands out. The information I included was when it was on, the genre of the TV Programme, who it starred and what it was about.

The next piece of information was on the programme Family Life. I again designed a header on Fireworks. The font style of the header was in the font style Consolas and was in the font size 58. I included the same information of when it is on, genre of the programme, who it stars and what it is about.

The third piece of information was on the show NRM Show. I created the header on Fireworks. The font style was Rockwell Extra Bold and was n the font size 58, I put the font colour in Blue. I put the same information in; when it is on, genre of the programme, who it stars and what it is about.

The fourth piece of information was on the programme Teen Models. I designed the header on Fireworks. The header was in the font style of Bodoni MT Condensed and in the font size 58, I put the text in a red colour to connotate lipstick. I put the same information in; when it is on, genre of the programme, who it stars and what it is about.

The fifth piece of information is on the programme Around the World. I designed the header on Fireworks. The header was in the font style Bodoni MT Black and is in the font size 54. I put the text in a blue to continue the blue theme. The information I included was; when it is on, genre of the programme, who it stars and what it is about.

All the information about the programmes is in the font style Franklin Gothic Demi.

The sixth piece of information is on the programme Grammar School Road I designed the header on Fireworks. The header was in the font style of Bodoni MT Condensed and the font size 58, I put the text in a green colour. I included the information on the show; when it is on, genre of the programme, who it stars and what it is about.

The final piece of information is on the show TV4U Sport Show. I designed the header on Fireworks. The font style I used was Bodoni MT Condensed and the font size was 66. I included the appropriate information on the show; when it is on, genre of the programme, who it stars and what it is about.

At the bottom in the bold font style Impact is the text “LOOK OUT FOR ALL THESE SHOWS” this ends the page nicely.

TV4U Schedule

The background is again in blue so it connotates youth.

In the top left hand corner is the logo of TV4U which is the link back to the homepage. There is again the banner in the top right hand corner, which has the catchphrase of the channel. Again the menu bar is in the form of a table. It is one row and has three columns. Each link is in the font style of Franklin Gothic Heavy and is in a large size. The font colour is again in purple and is underlined, so people know this is a link. Underneath is the introduction to what this page has on offer. Under the introduction is a table that has three columns. The first column is the name of the show; the second column is when the sow is on and the third column is what the show is about. I have only included the TV schedule for the night it kicks off which is the 16th January. The first column that has the name of the programmes in is in the font style Franklin Gothic Demi and is in the font colour white so people can tell what each column represents. The second column that tells the audience when it is on is in the font style of Franklin Gothic Demi and is in the font colour pale yellow. The final column is what each programme is about. This is the font style Franklin Gothic Demi and is a blue colour. Around the table are images of the shows on TV4U.

Pick of the Week

The background is again in blue so it connotates youth. In the top-left hand corner is the logo of TV4U which is the link back to the homepage. Underneath is the poster I designed on Fireworks. The poster is advertising the show teen models. Half the poster is in dark blue and the other half is the image of my sister. In the poster is 3 stars that read “Is she the next Teen Model?” Under the image is the time of the show and what day it I son. There is also information on the show in the font style Franklin Gothic Demi.

I have created a website that tells people about this brand TV Channel, TV4U.

I have tried to advertise the programmes to my target audience, because the more information I give to the audience, the more the audience know when to tune in for these brand new programmes. It’s a way of letting people know what to watch. I tried to make everything consistent and easy to navigate.

From looking at existing websites I realised that all websites have some sort of consistency so I incorporate this onto my website. At the top of the page I kept the logo as the link, as many people automatically go to logos on the website to get them back to the homepage. Kept the menu bar the same so people knew where to go to get to another page on the website. I kept the font style similar throughout, because people like consistency on websites. After looking at existing websites I realised that my background colour would stay the same, as backgrounds don’t swap on existing websites. I included introductions so people would know if they found what they wanted. I wanted my website to be friendly, and entertaining s people would come back to visit it.

Video on Website.

I also constructed a video to go on the website that people can view and get information of when the shows are on.

I did use music on my video. The song is by Black Eyed Peas and is called I gotta a feeling. In between each screen is a transition which brings up the next image. The first screen comes up with the words “TV4U THE CHANNEL 4 U”. I used the title animation “Moving Titles Layered”, this makes the title move over the top of the screen and gives a professional look. The background is blue and allows the animation to stand out.

The second screen that comes up is an image of Festival Time. The image has the writing “Festival Time Mondays 8pm”, I used the same title animation “Moving Title Layered”, this again gives a professional look. I edited the Festival Time Image on Fireworks, I put the date I took the image, and then put the new edited image onto the video.

The third image that appears on the screen is the image of Family Life. Text appears on the image that reads “Family Life Wednesdays 6pm”, again I used the same animation “Moving title Layered”. I edited the image on Fireworks by cropping the image.

The next image that appears on the screen is the NRM Show image. The NRM Show image I did not edit. The image has a different font style. Instead of the font style being in Arial I put the font style in Base O5. This particular style looks like rock music writing. I used the same animation of the layered title. It continues to give that professional look.

The next image that comes up on the screen is an image of a star. The star connotates the talent of the stars on the new shows. Again I used the layered title animation which gives the professional look. The font style is in the plain black font style of Arial.

The next image that comes up on a screen is the image of Teen Model. I edited the image so it looked like a Polaroid, a proper modelling picture. I wanted the image to look professional. I used the same animation of the “Moving title layered”. This continued the professional look.

The next image that comes up is the image of the programme Around the World. I edited the image on Fireworks so it looked like an actual recording. In the bottom right hand corner of the image is the word “rec” like you would see in on a real recording, and on the left hand corner is the timing. I again used the same animation of the layered affect.

The next image that comes up on the screen is the image of the programmer Grammar School Road. I did not edit the image, it was a perfect size, I used a different animation this time. When the writing coming up on the screen it is being typed out, so it connotates being at school/college where you have to type a lot.

The next thing that comes up on the screen is a newspaper that has an image of the TV4U Sport Show. I used the animation of a newspaper. The headline of the newspaper is “TV4U Sport Show Saturdays 10pm”. The image then moves of the newspaper and fills the screen so it looks likes a sports recording.

The last thing that comes up on the screen is the date of the launch of the show is “SATURDAY 16TH JANUARY 2O10”. This is in the animation of “Scroll Inverted”, this is so the audience know it is the end of the video.

Evaluation

The media technology I used was my computer. I used the internet to check my website, as my website is now on the internet. I also looked at the software Dreamweaver to check the sort of tools I used. But for the evaluation I mainly used the internet.

Research on Newspaper Advertisement

The researching I did was to look at two existing newspaper advertisements. The two advertisements I looked at was a newspaper advertisement from the tabloid newspaper The Daily Star that was advertising a new game show, hosted by Ant and Dec called Push the button. The advert I would be comparing it to is an advertisement from The Sun, that was advertising the TV Channel Sky Sports. I looked at the messages behind the pictures, the sort of information I should include, the colouring of the pictures and how the newspapers were laid out.

From looking at the newspaper advertisements I learnt again that everything on the page has a message and a meaning. They use a picture that has a connotation. The advertisement contains images that are relevant to the programme or product they are talking about. They layout everything on the page so everything can be seen. The background colours that are used allow the different components of the advertisement to stand out.

I used the key concept model LIIAR. I looked at the language of the Ant and Dec Article. The language of a newspaper advertisement is the background, the text, the images and the layout, I looked at this and gained ideas on what my newspaper advertisement should be like. I look at the ideology behind the newspaper of the Ant and Dec advertisement. The main idea was to grab the audience’s attention, I want my advertisement to do that. I want people to look at the advertisement. I looked at the institution who made it, the audience they aimed at and how they represented their target audience.

Using what I had learnt from the Ant and Dec advert and the key concepts LIIAR model I used for the Ant and Dec advert, I applied the same ideas to my newspaper advertisement. By getting inspiration from the Ant and Dec LIIAR concepts I could now create a newspaper advertisement that was going to be individual and different.

Planning of Newspaper Advertisement

Templates

I designed three templates on Microsoft Publisher to allow myself time to think out the layout of this newspaper advertisement. The templates I did gave me an idea of where everything should go to make the newspaper advertisement look good an professional.

Drawing

I sketched the design out on paper. Once I was happy with the design I scanned the design on and published it on blogger to show the draft version of my newspaper advertisement. By drawing a draft it allowed me to make mistakes. I realised that the drawing I did needed to be defined. So this became my draft copy as I felt the design did not look professional enough. I now had a definite idea of what I was going to use as my newspaper advertisement.

Construction

I scanned the design onto my computer. I saved the document as a PDF and imported the PDF into Fireworks. On fireworks, I deleted the components of the image that I felt that I did not need, after doing this I felt that the edges needed to be defined so I went around every component on the page. I needed the logo to be on the advert so people knew what the advertisement was about so I imported the logo into Fireworks and cropped it so it would fit the advert. After doing this I felt the audience needed to know the digital channels that TV4U would be available on so I also included what digital channels it would be on; Freeview Channel 26; Virgin Channel 115; Sky Channel 117. I put the text in bold Grey lettering. The last piece of information I included was when the channel started, this was again in grey lettering but could be noticed still.

Evaluation of Newspaper Advertisement

I used the internet to check blogger to see what I had written fro my evaluation. I also opened up the newspaper advertisement on Fireworks to see how it looked and the sort of tools I used for the newspaper advertisement. On Adobe Fireworks I used the import picture tool to import my logo and I used the text tool to write out the text. I used the different choices of font styles and sizes.

Research on Double Page Spread

The first step I took was to compare two existing double page spreads from the TV listings magazine Sky. I looked at the connotation and the denotation of each article. The first article I looked at was the TV Medical Drama House which introduced the characters of the show. I applied the key concept model LIIAR to the double page spread, getting an idea why they used certain colours, and the clothes they were wearing, the institution that made the show, the ideology behind the imagery, the audience they were aiming for and who they were suppose to be representing. I compared this double page spread to an animated double page spread about a new movie called Dr Seuss’ Horton Hears A Who! I again looked at the connotation and denotation of the double page spread. I then used the Key concepts mode LIIAR and compared this double page spread to the House double page spread, to get an idea of why they were so different. I did more research into institutions so I had an idea of who produced what.

As my double page spread was going to be published in a TV listings magazine I looked at TV listings magazines that already existed. The TV listings magazines I looked at were:

Whats on TV; TV Easy; TV Times; TV Satellite Week and Soap Life.

This was to research into what would be the best magazine to publish my double page spread in. I needed to publish my double page spread in a magazine that was popular with readers of all ages, who would buy the magazine and read it. I felt that Whats on TV was the best magazine to publish the double page spread in because over 4 million readers buy the magazine to use for the TV. People could read the double page spread and find out about the launch of TV4U.

I used the LLIAR key concept to put across what my double page spread was going to be like, and what decisions I was going to make on my double page spread.

I designed 3 templates giving me the chance to experiment with where everything should go on the double page spread. I made mistakes and realised that sometimes the templates became to crushed, but it game me the chance to make my mistakes and allowed me to make my final choice on the sort of template I would use.

I published the draft interview with Sweet and Sour, so that I have an idea on the interview.

Construction of Double Page Spread

I created the double page spread on publisher, using the text tool, the word art tool and the pictures toolbar.

Headline is in font style Base 05 and is in the font size 72. I put the headline in Pink to represent the female gender. The second part of the headline “the channel 4 U” is in a blue box in the font style of Arial Narrow and the font size is 28. The strapline is in a blue box so it represents the male audience. Pink and Blue are colours that connotate youth, and as my audience is young and youthful these are appropriate colours to use.

The web address is in the white font style of Arial narrow and stands out from the blue background. I put the TV4U logo near the top so people will recognise the logo and the logo will become the icon of the channel for the audience.

I put a small introduction below the strapline to give the audience and idea of what the double page spread is going to be about. The introduction is in the font style of Arial Narrow 9 because I did not want the audiences eye t be drawn away from the headline. The actual interview is split into columns like in a proper interview. I wanted the interview to look professional. The text in the interview is in Arial 9 size 9. The actual questions are in bold black writing so people can tell this is a question.

The names of the people who are being interviewed are in light blue so people can distinguish who is saying what. I have included image sin the columns, so when the two young stars talk about other shows, the audience know what shows they are about. The key dates are in red so people know what dates to look out for, and the channels that TV4U is on are also in red so people know where to tune in.

There is an image of Sweet and Sour because they are representing the channel, they are the ones talking about the channel. The image of Sweet and Sour is meant to be a typical representation of two teen sisters.

The launch date is in Bold Purple writing that I created on word art so that it jumps out to the audience’s eye. Other images of the show are on the double page spread so people know what other shows are on offer.

Evaluation of Double Page Spread

I opened up publisher and looked at what I had created. I studied the tools I used and what sizes I had put everything in, by doing this I could say what actions I took and why.

I put a lot of hard work into the project I have done. Although I have had time off for medical reasons, I have tried to keep up with the work. I put as much effort in as I could, and tried to make the media texts look as professional as possible.
